** spoiler alert ** Much more interesting than the first book in this trilogy, but still somewhat disappointing when compared to the Farseer and Tawny Man trilogies, which remain among my favorites. The pacing just seems off, and I found myself skipping through some sections. Normally I'm OK dealing with multiple POVs, but I just didn't think it was particularly well-done here. Still, I'm sure I'll read it again, and it's great to finally read a little more about Tintaglia and the sea serpents. The truth about wizardwood hardly comes as a shock, though, which I suppose is what I mean about pacing. In many places it felt like a slog rather than an edge-of-your-seat ride, and being jolted from one POV to another just didn't help. I also found it difficult to believe that Malta would take the turn she did, given the way she was set up in the first book. Perhaps if she'd been less of a petulant child there, it wouldn't have been so unlikely. Some of the other characterizations just seemed flat to me. I think if I'd read this before I read the Farseer and Tawny Man trilogies, I'd have liked it a whole lot more.
