Though much of Angela's Ashes is depressing, it has a surprising upturn at the end. The majority of the novel covers Frank's family, and their struggles with poverty, mainly due to his fathers alcohlism. Frank's goal of going to America seems unobtainable for most of the novel, only coming into view after Mrs. Finucane dies, and he takes the $40 out of the trunk in her attic. This was a welcome revelation in comparison to the rest of the book which consisted mainly of perpetual doom. I enjoyed reading Angela's Ashes, and intend to watch the movie as soon as I can track down a copy.
