I abandoned this book, I'm sad to say. I was really intrigued by the world Atwood has created and I love the way she presented it. My problem was with the hero of the story....he was so bland and uninteresting. The character here reminded me of the guys in high school who are so privileged that they can't see the world from beyond it. He whined a lot....and a lot of that whining was about how he can't have sex with his girlfriend anymore. Seriously?! Thats your source of conflict? So I abandoned it. The companion book to this, The Year of the Flood, looks interesting and I'm going to try that one out. I enjoyed the world, and Flood is told from the perspective of a pair of scientists, so it may proove to be better.
