490156 This is the kind of book that gets better upon reflection. The protagonist is a man caught between his homeland (Bosnia)and Chicago. Hemon has an interesting English...you get the impression he has a dictionary close at hand...and the results stretch the usage. I really like the incorporation of actual photographs from the Chicago Historical Society and those taken by his friend, Velibor Bozovic. There are three intertwined stories here, one based on the actual 1908 murder of a Jewish immigrant by the Chicago Chief of Police.
