Book Review: Bethany Shedrick The book that I read was Rain of Gold. This book was interesting to read because it overall wasn’t something that I was expecting to read. The book was about Mexican immigration. I have read a lot of books about immigration, and they all had things that were similar about other immigration books. This book had a lot of adventure in it, and that’s what made it a page turner. A lot of immigration books stay to the tradition or ritual of talking about mostly the hardships of it all, but this book has a lot of comedy, and romance that goes along with it. I heard from other classmates who were reading the book also, that the characters of the book were obviously real, but a lot of the stories were made up. The author basically took the real characters from the book, and then a few stories that his parents had told them, and blended that into the book. The book was very long, nearly 500 pages, and a lot of the stories seemed exaggerated. In a lot of scenes in the book, I knew were some of the stories were true, and at other times when it seemed really detailed with dialoged and everything, I knew it wasn’t very real.
