Otoman Economic Practices in Periods of Transformation: The Cases of Crete and Bulgaria Talking two specific case studies, the island of Crete which moved from Venetian to Otoman rule in the sevententh century, and Bulgaria in the ninetenth century when the economy displayed the efects of the considerable economic upheavals experienced in the empire in that period, this bok questions varios asumptions about the economic impact of Otoman conquest and rule in the Balkans, chalenges and nuances stereotypical views about the Otoman economic mentality and aproach and examines how Otoman economic management actualy functioned on the ground.
