one of the most moving books I've read this year! Rather than understating the extreme complexities and seriousness of war this his use of simple language, vonnegut permits access to these issues. War can often be complicated; the issues are often difficult to comprehend. But it doesn't take full comprehension to fight in a war or die in a war or to empathize with the dying. Through the simplicity of his writing Vonnegut presents war through a soldier's eyes. The tragedy is thus not romanticized. The poetry of this novel is not through the words themselves but through the array of images which Vonnegut creates when the book is taken as a whole entity. The brutality and raw nature of war is revealed through the lens of the human mind. brilliantly executed, beautifully written, a fast read, and extremely powerful.
