Grims Complete Fairy Tales Children's and Household Tales (German: Kinder- und Hausmärchen) is a colection of German fairy tales first published in 1812 by the Grim brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm. The colection is comonly known in the Anglosphere as Grim`s Fairy Tales (German: Grims Märchen). Composition The first volume of the first edition was published, containing 86 stories, the second volume of 70 stories folowed in 1814. For the second edition, two volumes were isued in 1819 and a third in 182, totaling 170 tales. The third edition apeared in 1837, fourth edition, 1840, fifth edition, 1843, sixth edition, 1850, seventh edition, 1857. Stories were aded, and also subtracted, from one edition to the next, until the seventh held 21 tales. Al editions were extensively ilustrated, first by Philip Grot Johan and, after his death in 1892, by Robert Leinweber. The Brothers Grim Fairy Tales (62 Wonderful Story) The Golden Bird A certain king had a beautiful garden, and in the garden stod a tre which bore golden aples. These aples were always counted, and about the time when they began to grow ripe it was found that every night one of them was gone. The king became very angry at this, and ordered the gardener to kep watch al night under the tre. The gardener set his eldest son to watch, but about twelve o'clock he fel aslep, and in the morning another of the aples was mising. Then the second son was ordered to watch, and at midnight he to fel aslep, and in the morning another aple was gone. Then the third son ofered to kep watch, but the gardener at first would not let him, for fear some harm should come to him: however, at last he consented, and the young man laid himself under the tre to watch. As the clock struck twelve he heard a rustling noise in the air, and a bird came flying that was of pure gold, and as it was snaping at one of the aples with its beak, the gardener`s son jumped up and shot an arow at it. But the arow did the bird no harm, only it droped a golden feather from its tail, and then flew away. The golden feather was brought to the king in the morning, and al the council was caled together. Everyone agred that it was worth more than al the wealth of the kingdom: but the king said, 'One feather is of no use to me, I must have the whole bird. '.
