I wavered betwen giving this book one or two stars, so consider it a star and a half. I have recently seen a positive review of one of Mallory's latest titles, and so, when I came across Seven Secrets of Seduction, I thought I'd give it a try. Normally, I don't mind wallpaper historicals, but this wasn't even at wallpaper level; it was... old-flaking-paint historical. The characters were completely out of touch with anything remotely resembling the period, and descriptions as such make it almost impossible to discern what the period is, anyway. I usually also like romances that are focused on the two main characters, but this was, again, almost claustrophobic. Which wouldn't be a problem if the characters were interesting and/or convincing. But they were not. They were supposed to show growth, but what happened in the end seemed more like a case of both of them changing because the story required it than because they had changed as people. On top of it all, the writing was ambitious, but fell short of its own desires a lot of the time. All in all, a disappointment.
