i found this whole series completely riveting. le guin has a wonderful, lyrical writing style that really ignites your imagination. the themes throughout the book were poignant and thought-provoking. definitely not your standard pulp fantasy stuff. the quote that goes something like "fiction is the poor man's philosophy" totally applies to le guin's work. (sorry, i don't remember who said that).
Loved the rich Southern setting. A story about sisterhood, racial tensions, and doing the right thing. A debut author to watch, for sure.
If it hadn't been for my friend Laura I never would have read this book because it's classified as science fiction, and I despise SF! I think every person who loves books and reading should read this book.
