Whale Talk was basically a story about a boy named T.J. who lives in a very neighborhood. Fed up with the the school bullies, the sports stars that get away with bullying and violence because they are the coaches 'favorites', he decides to start a swim team made up with the the most uncool kids in their school/town. This book is poignant. It deals with rascism and bullying in a mature light, while also making the characters realistic and easy to relate to. The scene where T.J. is ready to beat some of the bullies black and blue after they sexually harass his girlfriend's friend, and his mother sits him down and explains why that would be a bad idea is a very interesting scene, more realistic then you'd expect from a work of fiction. All in all, it's a great novel.
