I don't think a one or two sentence review will suffice for this book - this is the sort of thing you could do an entire dissertation on. Art, Religion, Eastern mysticism, Western self-centrism and self-determination, the role of the artist in religion, in politics and in the building and falling of empires, a hefty dose of historical education...it's a dense, educational but really entertaining murder mystery.

I was blown away by the beauty of the language, the plot, the logic, the originality of thought. I would willingly read it twice, it is so deep and beautiful at the same time.

Decent and fast read. Wilbur Smith has put a decent amount of research into muslim extremism and piracy. Shows. My fault with the book is that it has too long a plot with not enough time to delve into much details of each scene or characterization.
