I probably would have liked this a little more if I were presently a teenager in high school (but even if that were the case, it would still be difficult for me to relate to this kid and his ways). Not quite what I expected; I guess it seems too much like the "OC"/"Garden State" version of a metal fan. Certain situations sort of present the main character as that annoying know-it-all scenester type (and totally falling for that status). It was like he was trying so desperately hard to force/brag about his ideals as opposed to just showing them; turned me off right away. Just like most new metal, it's hard for me to stomach. After reading what I just typed, I am aware that I must sound like a bitter old man who must constantly say, "Well, back in the good ol' days.../these damn kids today..." but that isn't it. I see it in today's scenester culture of 20-30 somethings who tend to have that exclusiveness/fakeness to them... but what do I know? I'm probably not making much sense. Overall, it was an amusing quick read and okay for bus trips.
