This is a short story collection I re-read all of the time. With a strong plot towards science and map-making the author covers hiking in the Himalayas, TB sanitariums in upstate New York, living in 1860s Pennsylvania, and being a graduate student in biology. Best of all, the characters are revisited in her later work.

This was my first McCullough book and I found it a surprisingly easy and enjoyable read. Having not revisited much in the way of revolutionary history since junior high, this read was long overdue and hopefully will be followed by more in the area sooner rather than later. Although it makes a compelling title, I would have very much liked Mr. McCullough to expand his work outside of the single year. But for those looking for a quick refresher or a little extra information on George Washington and the early days of the Revolution, I can't think of a better start.
