Rare are the prose summaries which could conjure sufficient gratitude to the enormous weight of this work. One is easily inclined to breath pathetic overstatements to such effects as "one who has not read Moby-Dick simply has not yet read at all". But such would be pretentious bantering: the kind of thing only an isolatoe would mutter to themselves, even if in the company of their companions. Imagine, then, the brightest embers of praise which your mind can presently muster. Apply them to this book. Then multiply.

This is a powerful novel, not something to read if you are looking for a feel good story. I finished it pretty quickly because I just had to see how it would end. My one criticism of the book would be the foreshadowing - it got to be a little much at times. We knew from the very first page that something big and terrible was going to happen, and yet the author kept reminding us. This story is set in Afghanistan, after all, of course it is to be expected that it would deal with some tough material. I also found that the clues about what would happen next were a bit overdone - there were very few surprises due to the foreshadowing, as if the author had no faith in the intelligence of us readers. I had a tough time choosing between 3 or 4 stars.
