I'm mostly luke-warm on this book. While there were only 3 main characters they all felt superficially characterized to me and the secondary characters got even shorter shrift. I also had some problems suspending disbelief, well beyond the time travel piece at least. Specifically, in a society where time travel is possible and even relatively common, apparently nobody has a cell phone so the first several chapters are all about how different characters are unable to reach other characters and apparently they still only communicate over desk phones. Maybe she's stuck with the "future" she created in Doomsday book, written in '93, but Blackout was written within the past few years and certainly she could have come up with some explanation. In any event, none of the characters felt fleshed out to me and, more importantly, I did not become personally invested in any of them and if, at the end of the day, I can't bring myself to care about how they are going to deal with their awful situation I'm not going to be picking up book 2 to find out the resolution. Hmmm, may have just talked myself down to a 2 star rating from the 3 star I started this review with.
