This was a horrible story based on the life of the author's grandmother. What I thought would be a delightful fish out of water tale ended up being a truly disturbing story full of bigotry. No one in this story comes off as sympathic, best to not even bother with it.

Wish I remembered more about The Magicians--I think I would have liked this one even more. I thought the ending of this book was so sad, and couldn't stop thinking about it. Such an interesting commentary on the fantasy novels I loved so much as a kid, especially Narnia.
