lots of information packed tightly.
My friend Dave's book began life as his U-Chicago doctoral thesis, and is a sociological study of Chicago Blues clubs.
The first few chapters are really geared to those 40+, who may not be aware of the existence of some of the flatteners and their effects. For someone younger than that, it's a history lesson, but perhaps even more boring - it's an explanation of the world most of us have always known. It isn't until the later chapters of the book that it gets somewhat interesting, as Friedman expounds a bit about what the future holds for the semi-flat world.
I really wanted to like this book; it had great potential (the actual plot was interesting) , but the writing was just....bad. Maybe it's because I'm not really familiar with historical fiction and I have to read more, but I just found myself becoming more annoyed with this author's writing style as I continued to read. It was pretty obvious what was going to happen in some parts, and I never even followed the actual history.
