Another wonderful installment of Katz's life on a small farm in West Hebron, NY. I picked up my first Katz book entirely on a whim. I saw a border collie on the cover, scan read the blurb, and threw it onto a huge pile of library books I was collecting. Once I started reading, I was hooked, and I've been eagerly tracking down his books ever since. In this installment, we're reminded of the animal cast at his farm, and introduced to new faces. Katz continues to write with an honesty and introspection that is compelling when combined with his easy humour. I am often moved by his musings on the connection between people and their dogs, and pleased that he so rarely crosses over into lecturing or judgement. Jon Katz and I disagree on a few points, and I was disappointed by one aspect of this book (Clementine; I won't say any more to avoid spoilers) but, admittedly, it's a complicated issue and hindsight is 20/20. Overall, this is a good, easy read with plenty of fun, heart, and backbone. I loved it.
