A solid 3.5 stars for an intricately woven work of historical fiction. The prologue completely shocked me and made me eager to delve into the story. The history of Florence in the late 1400's was a very interesting backdrop (of which I knew little) to the telling of Alessandra's life. While I found this to be an engaging tale, and very much liked the main characters, the prose at times dragged a bit. Still, I was satisfied with the story and glad I read it.
