What a formative read this was for my angry little teenaged feminist mind. In light of our current near theocracy, falling fertility rates and the threat to Roe v. Wade, I think we all could learn a lot from this cautionary tale.
I read this book only once, which is rare for me. I don't think I could read it again. I liked the interesting perspective that Maguire has taken, but not all of the ideas can be correlated to the land of Oz that we all know and love, which makes the more creative parts annoying. I'm always up for a new take on things, and I like that he played devil's advocated with such a classic. But I think once was enough for me.
this was an excellent sequel to I am Number 4. I'm excited to read more, but I hate starting a series that isn't completely finished! I don't have the patience! Luckily The Son of Neptune is out in a few weeks. It bothered me that it took so long to look in the chest and read the letter but the story was worth the frustration. I'd also like a cepan to explain something --- ANYTHING! & I hate Judas (if you read it you'll know what I mean).
