One of the few novels I've ever read that can seem detached and depressing but still be engaging and riveting. I devoured this novel whole, from start to finish, compelled by the characters' stories. I was sorely disappointed to find there were no other fiction novels by Ms. Roy to satiate my appetite, but I anxiously await her next effort.
