I'm loving this book right now....
The author really had a great subject. Black woman in the South during the Kennedy administration. Even though the story is fiction the characters and story feel real. The author brought forth an honest view of the treatment of blacks and woman in the South. Knowing that author had some personal experience growing up in the South put a purpose to the book. Through Skeeter, Kathryn Stockett's navigates her personal journey into the question, "What is it like to work as hired black help for a white woman?" But it is discovered through this journey, more is revealed about the human spirit and nature. The Help reminds us that we are connected no matter the race we are born into. And, sometimes we need to reach out beyond our comfort zone and to take the risk in knowing each other better. There were a lot of brave woman, both black and white that took risks to bring forth an understanding and acceptance; and eventually equality for woman and for black people in general.
Not as good as Catherine Called Birdy but much better than Matilda Bone.
