While a good story, I found the writing style to be overly cynical in places, and I never really grew attached to any of the characters. Also, it seems not to have been edited properly and there are a lot of small words missing all over the book. Ok, that said, I did enjoy this book. I love assassins, thieves, intrigue and everything dark that goes along with them. The setting was well thought out, lots of fun props and places. The character relationships were fun to read, especially Kylar and Durzo, but their banter could have been developed a lot more, and through the banter given me more of a chance to really sink into their personalities. I think the biggest problem I had with this book was that Weeks didn't drop enough hints to help the reader figure out where the intrigue was leading. When I'm reading I love it when things drop into place and you finally realize what's going on just moments before the main character does. That never happened in this book. The main twist came as a total surprise, but it was so badly foreshadowed that my reaction was just: oh, right. While the end of the book should have been emotional I didn't really feel anything, and to me that is the biggest failing of this book. Still, it is worth a read if you like the genre and I am looking forward to the adventures in Book 2. If I could, I'd give it 3.5 stars, but Goodreads doesn't allow that so I have to settle for 3.
