Monique's life as a midwife, mother, wife, in-law, without rest is unfortunately all too typical for the women of Mali. The dangers of tropical illnesses, overwork, inadequate medical facilities, and the list goes on, contribute to the early demise of so many women and children in Africa. Monique's story made for a very interesting book.
