Louis Sachar has done more than just create the surreal Wayside School--well before writing the fantastic Holes, he warmed up with There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom. The protagonist of this book, Bradley Chalkers, is one of the great characters in children's literature.

Loved it, of course. But gained 3 pounds while reading it. The hummingbird cake is to die for!!
