I ordered this book because there really aren't a lot of books about Malay folklore out there. A lot of my friends have already forgotten the old stories, and I only know the few handful of stories that my mother still tells me occasionally. I thought this book would be a great way to remember the old stories, and hoped that the retellings would be interesting and/or funny. For the most part the jokes fall flat, but I still appreciate this book because they run the original stories as well, reminding me of some of the tales I've forgot.
