The story takes place in a future time after some kind of nuclear event where civilization as we know it no longer exists. I first read this as a teenager and really enjoyed it. I wanted to read it again to see if it was appropriate for my 10 year old. I was expecting it to be very outdated because technology has changed so much since then, but I was surprised. Besides the fact that VHS tape was the most advanced video technology that existed at the time... and for the characters in the story.... the rest really isn't dated. Gerald Lund's writing has some annoying qualities that didn't bother me as a teenager, but he has a great imagine and is an excellent storyteller.
Great first book by the author - very different story - I look forward to more books from him.
Never thought about it, but it wouldn't be nice at all to be A. A. Milne's son (Christopher Robin) and have your dad writing about all the cute things you said and did... especially after you're no longer a toddler.
