an affecting and informative novel about 5 (plus) characters who go through hurricane katrina. it ain't pretty folks, still in 2011, there is lots of malfunction and lost services and culture. If you have any teensy bit of heart this novel will get your forehead all hot and make you cry probably. only 3 star for the clunky speech Leo gives about how important his comic books are to him even though he has to leave them behind when he evacuates the city.

The blurb about this book pretty much sets the stage to begin reading, and I'm not really one who likes to "spoil" a book for other readers who might come across this review. That and the fact that it is actually hard to separate the series into three seperate works makes it hard for me to organize my thoughts. The book sucked me in from the first sentence and kept me involved until the last, and ready to move right into the second book. I thought it highly imaginative, intense, emotional and original.
