What was the event that tipped the scales and sent the Romans and the Pharisees solidly against Jesus? That's right, the trashing of the Temple. Not because the Romans were scared by such a public disruption by a possible Jewish revolutionary. Nor because the Pharisees saw it as blasphemous. Nope. Because they were all skimming from the moneychangers and Jesus was interfering with their cut! That kind of everyday pragmatic humor is what this book does best. I think it treats Jesus with enough warmth and reverence to not be offensive to Christians (as long as they aren't too uptight), but everything else is pretty much fair game. If you like religious humor, this may not skewer Christianity, but as long as you have a passing knowledge of the Jesus story, you should be able to get the jokes.
