lots of good issues mixed in with the story, e.g. heroine has to spend her time working with a colt with a cranky 16-year-old.

Coraline is forever bothered by people who can't pronounce her name, calling her Caroline instead. What really sucks is that even when she passes into a parallel universe, where her Other Mother plots to steal the souls of children and Coraline's parents, no one can get her name right. This is a very dark tale good for kids who like that sort of thing. I'm curious to see Tim Burton's take on this, because it seems as if it were written with that interpretation in mind.
