Certainly written in the most difficult Spanish I have come across so far.
Reasonably good story. Did not care for some of the characters. Enjoyed being back in Cape Cod. Not one of my favorites. At one point it reminded me of an upper-middle class version of The Glass Castle (Jeannette Wall). Definitely confirms my staunch belief that not everyone should be a parent.
What I Liked: epic feel; stellar metaphors (the kind that make you stop and reread them fifteen times like you did when you first discovered literature); authentic, flawed characters; raw brutality; stark landscape; food; a bit of a Garcia Marquez feel. I was awe-struck by the research this guy must have had to do.
