I love Gail Carriger. LOVE her books. I'm so glad that she has another series out set in the world of the Parasol Protectorate series. It took me a bit to situate into the world of this book. Characters cross over (much earlier and much younger) and references are made to the Parasol Protectorate series. Once I had that sorted out in my head, it was an enjoyable read. It took a little bit on the uptake to get into the flow of this book (and if I could give it 3.5 stars that is probably what I would rate this one.) But it was a fun read and I'm looking forward to the next in the series. I can't wait to see what happens to Sophronia! Carriger does a good job of wrapping up a story while at the same time leaving you wanting more. These books are ridiculous but ridiculously fun. And while this particular series is YA, it isn't dumbed down. And thank heavens there isn't the whining that is in so many YA books.

This is a book that purprorts to be about the home but this is a framework for a rambling historical fact book. Full of interesting asides and unlilely wanderings but never boring. highly recommended.
