When I was having my own deathbed experience, I was thinking about this book. Devestating book, but excellent.

My mother and sister both raved about this book (as have several booksellers I know.) I think I'm too much of a literal thinker (and someone who cannot wrap my brain around sci-fi and doesn't even try) for this book. The premise is interesting but I couldn't suspend my disbelief and questioning. On a positive note, however, this book made me reflect upon the miracle of when/how/why people come into our lives.

Here's the thing: This was written when Vonnegut was sick and tired of the world at large, wishing explicitly to die. There might be a comparison to be made with Twain's final works, but where Twain's humor got darker and scarier, Vonnegut just rambles, and makes D-level "Bush is dumb" jokes. I love the man. But everything here was addressed better in his other books. Even "A Lesson in Creative Writing," which is good, appears in Palm Sunday. Read the rest of his work. It's amazing. But not this.
