The Outsiders, is sorta like the movie West Side Story, but instead of the jets and the sharks there are greasers and socs. The story is told in the point of view of the youngest greaser, Ponyboy. After ponyboy's parents died, he has to live with his brothers who are always making sure that he is taking care of himself so that they don't get separated. Through Gang wars, murder, running away, you see how the greasers handle life, and see how they come to realize that they are more than just friends in a gang but that they are actually a family. I really enjoyed this book. I had to read it in junior high and didn't quite understand it but now as i read it again it is wonderful! I really liked how you see the story through ponyboy's eyes because it is then like you are actually in the story. This book is full of a lot of emotions which is always keeping you on your toes! Warning: there is teen smoking and drinking and a few swear words towards the end of the novel.
