This was a nice book for learning or getting refreshed on snippets of Outer Banks history. The vignets spanned the centuries, from 1584 to 2005, and included a nice variety of information about life on the Outer Banks over the centuries.

I loved Twilight. I was hesitant to start the series but now I am in for the taking. I give it 5 stars

Read the whole series out loud to my son... even better when read aloud

Who knew? I guess as a newcomer to the US I should have found this out before but I always thought of Yellow fever as an African or at least tropical disease. Well written story about the last great Yellow Fever outbreak in the US in 1878 as well as the fight against the disease in American and also Cuba during the American-Spanish conflict. The tale of how the source was tracked down is particularly interesting and amazing what reasearch they had to do - fatal research sometimes. The science is a little questionable. There is an implication that the virus is in some way trying to evolve and outwit human intervention and it is annoying to have it couched in those terms. That is a minor quibble as this is a history rather than a scientific evaluation.
