This book was pretty good. My only problem with it is that I believe it is marketed too young. There is one particular scene about someone losing their virginity too soon (it isn't explicit, but it is there) and the aftereffects. When I read it one of my cousins in the 3rd grade was reading it and I cautioned her mother because at least my aunt could be prepared for any questions that might come about. Besides that I would recommend this book to teen girls who like books like "The Princess Diaries".
Great book for kids to explore!!!!! I love how all of the cultures are presented. It is published in association with UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund
Not one of her better books. I won't bore you with the story line. I didn't particularly like the adult characters. The whole thing seemed terribly implausible. I'd probably skip this this unless I had nothing else to read.
Sometimes long-winded, and frustrating in that actual pages of the manuscript are missing towards the end, but overall a humorous and insightful portrait of Russia's small-town social bubble. It's certainly an odd microcosm to delve into, as a modern reader, but somehow manages to entertainingly confirm how similar these people essentially are to any other small-town society. Their ambitions, their weaknesses, their obsessions, and their airs are all too familiar.
