This book had a very unique premise, and plot-wise it really seemed like the sort of novel I would adore. But I could not get past the author's style of writing and the overall pacing of the story. I found many of the scenes to be disjointed and frequently had to go back and re-read several pages just to understand where the characters were, what their goals were, why they were going to talk to someone else, etc, etc. It was frankly confusing to the point of making me lose incentive to keep reading. I found myself wanting to completely skip over sections of dialogue because they dragged on...and on...and on...and on. Some parts read like a school textbook, almost like the author had a great idea in his head but wasn't sure how to realistically have characters discuss it, so he just slapped the entire idea down into 10 pages of dry dialogue. I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because there were some genuinely funny, quirky parts; I will say he developed some of the characters very well. But so many parts of the novel were frankly painful to get through. I know several friends of mine loved this book, and I really, really tried to give this a chance. But maybe this author just isn't for me!
