Wow. This was absolutely nothing like the movie and I hate that it took me so long to read this. Fantastic military fiction with some philosophy peppered in.

I had been curious about the hype surrounding this book and after watching the movie, I absolutely HAD to read it. It seemed like every other person on the train reading, was reading one of these books. Now, while I'm not sure it's worthy of ALL the buzz (*wait, wait!!), it is very certainly an extremely good book. Give it a try if you are holding out - you won't be disappointed. That is, however, unless you can't stomach graphic violence. If that's the case then this book is absolutely not for you. I do wish I hadn't seen the movie first - only because it spoiled some of the surprise and intrigue along the way. I did enjoy the movie and if you aren't going to read the book, then by all means, see the movie. I will watch the second and third movies only after reading the books.

I love Jon Krakauer. This man makes non-fiction so, so exciting. This book is amazing in its portrait of fundamentalist Mormons. On every page you will undoubtedly utter, "Oh my God!" or "Holy shit!"
