This book is perfection. Even though there are some gruesome parts (if cannibals and dead babies bother you then you might want to try lighter fare...) the writing was gorgeous. Some of the most depressing subject matter I've ever read described with some of the most beautiful and lyrical prose I've ever read. Beautiful and terrible all at once like every good book should be.
How could you not like this book, if only for the story of Foucault dropping acid with two UCLA graduate students while at Zabriskie Point.
When twelve-year-old Hugo, an orphan living and repairing clocks within the walls of a Paris train station in 1931, meets a mysterious toyseller and his goddaughter, his undercover life and his biggest secret are jeopardized. Although this book is huge, almost half of it is in illustrations. Kids I think will like the format but the story is kind of sad.
