Before 2010 rated this as a 2 - not sure why as I am sure it was better than that. 2016 - This time I gave it 3/5. We went for a walk just after I'd finished it and I can't say that I didn't keep glancing around as we were walking through the woods looking for anything unusual. Can't wait to reread the next one.

I love this book, until I get to the final chapter. That where the excessive poeticism and philosophizing begins. The plot is still incredibly compelling, and Elphaba is a great protagonist.
