I haven't read many books from John Grisham and after "The Summons" I'm not too keen to read more from him. Both the main character and the main plot were a bit boring to read. The book made a fairly good attempt in being a good law-paranoia-thriller but failed to succeed in any of these parts.
This book is not for the faint of heart. I will read anything Robin McKinley writes. Many of her books are very good for children and adults to enjoy together. This book is really only for adults. It is intensley emotional but has been an inspiration to many women who have experienced the trauma of being raped. You will journey through the horror and healing process of a great heroine.
I'm a fan of Cussler and have always enjoyed the Dirk Pitt series. This one, featuring the husband-wife team of Sam and Remi Fargo, who are treasure hunters, just doesn't measure up to Pitt and team. This is the second book in the series - I have not read the first one yet - but plot line was rather predictable. Sam and Remi still seem to be coming into their own as well, so it may take a few more books int he series to flesh them out. That said, I did enjoy the attention to detail, especially with regard to the history, mythology, and geography, and he does spin a good yarn. He has also made the setting contemporary and integrates modern technology and techniques into the narrative. Cussler is always good for a quick escape and this one is no different. Just don't expect deep or profound reflection. Enjoy it and move on.
