After reading some Greek tragedy and listening to Wagner, I have a new appreciation of these works. BT is really important and CW is really entertaining and Kaufmann's idea to put them together is great. Definitely recommended for people who, like me, are not Wagner fans.
This book is full of color and imagination in its depiction of a true and harrowing story. The story hits on many themes common in Lord of the Flies --- survival, perservearance and courage. The main character, Pi, tells of his life as a zookeeper's son. Once his father decideds to sell the zoo, the family picks up and moves to Canada. Only, they never get there. The ship encounters a major wreck and Pi finds himself in a lone lifeboat with a Bengal tiger, a hyena, a rat and a zebra. Pi hones his own instincts in order to get himself to safety across the vastness of the Pacific Ocean. Once you get into it, it is a real page turner.
Short and less complex than some of his other books. It has a similar structure to Hard-Boiled Wonderland, with alternating chapters. I enjoyed it a lot, but I pretty much like everything he writes.
