Though this book began a little slow, once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. You develop a love-hate relationship with the main character which is constantly challenging your emotions and reactions. Set in Afghanistan prior to the Taliban, this book made me think of what life must have been like before the Afghanistan I always hear of, and made me think of all the innocent lives there affected rather than lumping them all into the terrorist individuals blasted on the news. Though incredibly violent and descriptive at times, the author certainly creates a piece that enables the reader to truly envision what the characters, locations, and events look like. Phenomenal piece.
I'm not sure why this book is called The Cookbook Collector. There is nothing about cookbooks until page 178 and then the cookbook collection is a secondary story line. Lots about startup computer companies. Character story lines were tied up too quickly at the end.
