*** I own an older edition, so some things may be different *** The definition of a desert-island book. At over 1000 pages and spanning nearly five centuries, one can find hours of fun reading here. Muir covers all angles from aphorists to novelists, Punch magazine writers to frontier columnists. Nearly everyone who is significant in the history of humor is represented. I can't recommend it enough.

"Dreamy" Edward gets married . . .

At first Angie Sage added WAY too many descriptions about things we just didn't care about. The people? Important? The rat? Important. Back story on the rat? Truly don't care. Rat's wife who is simply mentioned a few times in the book? Don't care. It seemed like she was trying to describe EVERYTHING so much that it wasn't working. A little bit into the book (maybe 1/3 of the way?) she dropped that and the story went much better. About halfway through the book it really took off and I couldn't put it down, even though it was 2 in the morning. Great fun story, not sure if I'm willing to get into the series, but a fun read.
