Epic drama about an Australian family's dynasty covering the early 1900's through 1969. This book had great character development, though at almost 700 pages, I should hope so. The primary character is the Cleary's only daughter, Meghann (Meggie), though the family's priest, Father Ralph, is also prominent. The plotline was compelling, unpredictable, and at times quite scandalous. The Cleary family lives on Drogheda, a huge ranch in the Australian outback. I think how our moms feel about The Thorn Birds is how I feel about The Time Traveler's Wife.
The story was good, some great characters and interesting story-lines but the novel never seemed to get off the ground for me. This book feels incomplete, I wasn't disappointed to finish it, it was both strangely dark and an unrewarding read.
