"Literary" fiction at its best. A quiet book tightly focused on the minutia of life in a New England fishing village around the turn of the 19th/20th centuries, the prose is poetry with no frou-frou. I can't say enough good things about it. The "Dunnet Shepherdess" story that's included with my edition was the best, but only because I'd read the book before it. This is going on my "to be read and reread" "take me away to someplace else" pile.
