Taking place during one day in the lives of Maggie and Ira Moran, Breathing Lessons takes us through a review of their lifes, their joys and sorrows, triumphs and tragedies, successes and failures in a way that is a totally comfortable trek. Events lead to memories of other similar events and end, by the completion of the book, with a look at the lives of Maggie and Ira as a cohesive whole. I love the technique of intermixing current activities and flashes of memory that each of us experience as we go through our lives. As I sit pulling weeds from my flowerbed, my mind wanders back to other younger days when, as I sat pulling weeds, neighbors would come by and we would talk. The memory strong and comfortable, or sometimes uncomfortable as an old shoe.

This book is interesting. I think the boy learned his lesson when he got out of jail but when he went to go get milk for his mom and took his little sister he ran in to some trouble. And then he thinks he needs protection so then he goes back to his old ways and joins a gang and pushes a car in to the water and beats people up just b/c they are in the other gang. I learned if your in trouble don’t go to a gang you will just get in more trouble and go back to jail. And if u do the right thing and stay out of trouble u might get to live your dream.
