This book got me through the winter semester. I loved it--great characters, history of a place & ongoing conflict that was interesting, not shoved around, and heartbreaking bits throughout. The hill country described so beautifully in the bookis one of my favorite parts of India. I didn't really like Desai's first novel about the guavas, and I do like guavas, so that was a shame. But this one's a stunner.
