It was ok. The plot line is predictable and you already knew what was going to happen but it still was a decent read. I would recommend as a "beach book". One you don't mind putting down if something else comes up.
I liked this book when I was reading it, but find that I like it more the more I think about it. The narrator, a historian and reporter in Egypt during WW2, "writes" a history of her life in her head as she lies dying. As she is lost in her own thoughts, we also briefly see into the minds of her long-time lover, daughter, and sister-in-law which highlight the complex relationships between families and how we all have personal histories that may overlap, but can tell entirely different tales.
